Rob works on the 12V and 24V DC electrical systems on sail and power boats, charter vessels and tenders. He comes to your berth at Coral Sea Marina, Port of Airlie and Shute Harbour, to swing moorings, and to boats on the hardstand. Marine grade cable and terminations are used on every job because heat, humidity and salt in the Whitsundays wear out anything less.
Marine electrical services
Fault Finding
Dead circuits, tripping breakers, house banks going flat, voltage drop and corroded connections. Rob traces intermittent faults caused by vibration and moisture with proper test gear.
Wiring & Distribution
Wiring repairs, partial and full vessel rewires using tinned marine grade cable. Switch panel and breaker panel installation and upgrades, bus bars, fuse blocks, circuit protection, DC earthing and bonding checks, cable tidy ups and labelling.
Batteries
House and start battery banks designed and installed. Battery switches, automatic charging relays (ACR and VSR), DC-DC chargers, battery monitors and shunts. Lithium (LiFePO4) upgrades, and AGM and deep cycle supply and fitting.
Charging
Engine alternator charging faults and upgrades, external alternator regulators, solar panels with MPPT controllers, and DC side wiring for plug-in battery chargers. Charging system health checks.
Pumps & Safety
Bilge pumps, float switches and high water alarms. Navigation lights, anchor light and deck lights. Horn and spotlight wiring. Engine start circuits and kill switches.
Navigation & Electronics
Chartplotter and GPS installation, VHF radio and antenna, AIS, depth sounders and fish finders, autopilot power, NMEA 2000 network setup and faults, instrument and gauge wiring.
Engine Electrical
Outboard and inboard starting and charging faults, engine wiring harness repairs, engine gauge and sender wiring, ignition and start battery faults. Electrical only. Rob does not do engine mechanical work.

Pre-season electrical safety checks. Regular electrical maintenance for charter and commercial vessels. Corrosion treatment on terminals and connections. Pre-purchase boat electrical inspections. Tender electrical and boat trailer wiring.
Lithium, solar and inverters
If you want lithium batteries, more solar, an inverter for 240V appliances at anchor, or to see your battery state from your phone, that is a Victron Energy system. Rob designs and installs Victron systems on boats at Coral Sea Marina, Port of Airlie and Shute Harbour and looks after them once they are in.

Marina berths at Coral Sea Marina (the marina at Abell Point) and Port of Airlie. Shute Harbour, including the Shute Harbour Marina and the boat ramp. Swing moorings off Airlie Beach and in Pioneer Bay. The hardstand and boat yards. Bareboat and charter vessels between bookings. Trailer boats at your home or at the Whisper Bay and Shute Harbour ramps.
Marinas, moorings, ramps and yards
Rob is on the water most days between Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, and covers the whole Whitsunday coast for boats that are trailered or moored elsewhere.
Marine FAQs
Do you come to boats on moorings or only marina berths?
Both. Marina berths at Coral Sea Marina and Port of Airlie, swing moorings, Shute Harbour, and boats on the hardstand. Tell Rob where the boat is when you call and he will sort out access.
My batteries never stay charged. Can you find out why?
Yes. This is the most common marine call Rob gets. It is usually a charging problem, a worn out battery bank, or loads nobody has accounted for. Rob tests the whole system and shows you where the power is going.
Can you upgrade my boat to lithium?
In most cases yes. Lithium done properly means the charging sources, protection and monitoring are upgraded with it. Rob designs the full system first.
Do you do 240V shore power work?
No. Rob works on the 12V and 24V DC side only. If a job needs 240V AC work, that is done by a licensed electrical contractor, and Rob can work alongside them.
Do you work on jet skis?
No. Sail and power boats, charter vessels and tenders only.
Do you do pre-purchase electrical inspections?
Yes. Before you buy, Rob goes through the vessel's electrical system and gives you a plain report on its condition.
