Symbiote Systems is a mobile marine electrical and 12V power business owned and operated by Rob James in Airlie Beach, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and in the course of doing business, how we use it, and how you can contact us about it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

We only collect what we need to respond to you and do the job. That may include:

  • Your name, phone number and email address when you call, email, or use the contact form on this website.
  • Details you give us about your boat, 4WD, caravan or power system so we can quote and carry out the work.
  • The location of your vessel or vehicle (marina, mooring, home or holiday park) so we can attend.
  • Invoicing and payment details needed to bill you for work completed. We do not store credit card numbers.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health, religion or political views, and we ask that you do not send it to us.

How we use it

  • To answer your enquiry and provide a quote.
  • To schedule, carry out and follow up on work.
  • To invoice you and keep records we are required to keep for tax and warranty purposes.
  • To contact you about the work we have done, for example if a product recall or firmware update affects your system.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.

Website analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are read and roughly where visitors are located. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects anonymised usage data. It does not identify you personally. You can block cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

We may also use Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) advertising tools. These services may place a cookie or pixel on your browser so that we can measure whether our advertising is working and show relevant ads to people who have visited this site. Who we share it with

We share personal information only where needed to provide our services:

  • Our accounting and invoicing software provider, for billing and record keeping.
  • Equipment suppliers and manufacturers, such as Victron Energy, where a product warranty claim or system registration requires it.
  • Website and email hosting providers that store data on our behalf.
  • Government agencies or other parties where the law requires it.

Some of these providers store data outside Australia. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is handled in line with Australian privacy law.

How we keep it safe

Your information is stored in password-protected business systems and email accounts. This website uses SSL encryption for anything you submit through it. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as long as the law requires, then delete it.

Access and correction

You can ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact Rob using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge for this.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first and we will do our best to sort it out. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
